Our Treatment Program
Gateway provides 12-Step based treatment for male clients who may be struggling with various addictions. Often the addiction is made worse by co-occuring mental health issues.
The Gateway counseling staff are all recovering addicts themselves who can relate personally to the unique problems of denial and guilt that accompany addiction They are all licensed by the State of Louisiana and work under the direction of a Licensed Addiction Counselor. Our staff is especially equipped to help the dually diagnosed addict.
The Treatment Program for non-veterans is 16 weeks long. The first six weeks is divided into two three week phases.
Phase I (acceptance) phase) covers Steps 1 through 3 of the 12 Steps.
Phase II (spirituality) covers Steps 4 and 5.
A separate education phase runs concurrently.
The remaining 10 weeks is called "Stage II Recovery" a continuing care program that allows client to find work and remain in a safe community while they prepare to move back into the "real world." Assistance is provided by our staff to find both jobs and housing if needed.
Clients with co-occurring psychiatric diagnoses can be referred to Jefferson Parish Human Service Authority for psychiatric care and medication.
Each client is assigned to an addiction counselor to follow their progress.
Attendance at appropriate 12 step meetings is required.
Our program is spiritual, not religious. To overcome addiction, the love, trust relationship with the object of addiction must be replaced with love for self, for others and for a higher power. The emotional experience produced by these few steps is powerful and life-changing. To be released from the power that an object of addiction holds, the momentary joy it produced must be replaced by true joy welling from within.
